I just spent waaaaay too much time getting rid of a trojan that hijacked IE and redirected my google search results, and couldn't find a solution on the web so I thought I'd post it for everyone else to find:

Problem: Google search results return a normal list of results in IE, but when clicked the first 2-3 times the results are redirected to another site. On the 3rd or 4th click the proper page is returned.

Culprit: This appears to have been the work of downloader.agent.ul

Fix: I used the Ewido Malware Removal tool. It's free to try for a couple of weeks and can be found on cnet.com in the downloads section. Ad-aware, and Windows Defender didn't identify this particular malware.

1. Download Ewido and update the malware definitions while attahed to the network

2. Reboot in Safe Mode (hit F8 during reboot for most systems) ... this was a precaution, but may not have been necessary.

3. Run Ewido and let it do it's thing.

~ Cheers
