I have this setup on 2 computers. It works on one, the other it doesnt. Here's what happens.

THe google desktop search bar appears in outlook. I search, i find the email i'm looking for, i click "View in Outlook" and NOTHING HAPPENS.

On my other computer, this opens the email in outlook. On this computer, nothing at all happens. It makes that clicking sound, but nothing loads, nothing opens, etc.

Also, it only shows me the first few lines of the email on the g.desktop page.

Can someone tell me where I went wrong? All settings are the same on both compouters.

Are you sure you are running the same verson of GDS on the two systems? Go to the About page to see.

There has been an issue with Google Desktop interfering with Outlook 2k3 opening messages. You should make sure you are running the latest version of GDS (5.7). If not then just download the latest version and install it over the existing one.

About page says this:

Google Desktop 5.7.0801.01629-en-pb

OK, so that's not it.

There is a good discussion of a solution for one instance of this symptom here:

Also this MS KB article, though related to VB coding, has some useful information on verifying the automation server:

Finally, I have heard some people say running a PST repair has helped with this type of problem, but that had to do with only certain messages failing to open from GDS.

Mullin, that stuff is way over my head...can you translate for me? or simply let me know how to fix this problem with google desktop and outlook03?

Yeah, that stuff is highly technical and I would undertake it only on a fully backed up system including a registry backup.

Essentially what they are saying is malware removal or prevention may have disabled the feature in Outlook or the OS which allows Outlook functionality to be invoked by other processes. This could also happen for a number of other reasons such as required services not runing, registry corruption, malfunctioning OLE layer, etc.

Are the two systems involved running the same anti-virus configuration? You might try disabling the AV email scanner on the failing system temporarily to see if that is the cause. Check that both systems are running the same services.

Otherwise, you might uninstall/reinstall Outlook, though I can't say for sure if that would help and of course you would want to preserve your files and settings so again a good backup would be mandatory. Not a trivial task either.

I would try reindexing GDS and, if that doesn't help, uninstall/reinstall it before poking around with Office or the OS.
