Hi,

I am evaluating the Microstrategy product for my company. Coudl someone tell me the pros and cons as opposed to Business Objects. Also I would like to know if there are any good links for help with Microstrategy.

Thanks in advance

MicroStrategy has a set of online seminars which can help explain some features and benefits.
the OLAP report provides good commentary, although I would limit the reading to the technical and dismiss the pro-Microsoft sentiment there.

here are some recent product comparisons:

Hi,

Here are some of the pros and cons which i think are there
and may help u.

1.
Microstrategy is basically a rolap product, hence it
can support a huge amount of data or a huge database.

Business objects is a Holap product but it may not support
a very huge amount of data in efficent way but it has the capability of supporting OLAP cubes and any files.

2. Microstrategy ver 7.0 has come up with a lot of features and he has integrated his basic modules like architect, agent, administrator etc into a single desktop product so it is easy as a developer to work and monitor etc in a single module. Even earlier vers of Mstr was following the same Business objects structure.

Business Objects has lot of modules in it like
BO--reporter, BO-explorer, supervisor, designer, BO-web Infoview, BCA, Broadcast Agent etc..which has a developer one finds difficult to work with.

3. Microstrategy has features like object prompts, relationship filters etc which can be created easily and deployed but it does not treat cell wise like business objects.

Business objects has a good interface where u can change the colors, calculations etc cell wise where as mstr
has some fixed structures.

4. Microstrategy has come up with something call olap providers etc where in you can use business objects, cognos reports are used as the input for the the microstrategy and generate reports and also which may aid in easy integration.

I do not know how far business objects accepts or can retreive the data from dss database or tools.

5. Business objects has a good web intelligence and mstr has also one.

6. Mstr has a application server where in 3 and 4 tier environment it takes all the load instead of puting on the client part. Business objects as such does not have a application server.

7. Business objects web reports can be exported to also pdf format which i think is not there with mstr.

8. Mstr has a narrowcast server product through which individuals users, groups etc can be targeted through there required devices like pager, cell, voice messages etc.

Business object also has broadcast agent thorugh which
the requirements can be met but whether it can be trasmitted to pager, cell, palm etc is a question.

9. Business objects can be installed with zero administration called ZABO through which bo gets installed in the clients machine through web where as Microstrategy just requires a browser.

There may be more difference which u can go to the websites and the reference links and get the information.

cheers
