Good evening guys, I have a customer with a CM Vs6.*, after doing a delayed reboot the license error came up saying system will be locked in 30 days. I logged into the C-DOM to check the status of the servers and I'm seeing that System Manager is in "Application State: Starting". It's been like this over a day now. I have restarted Cdom and smgr by itself and it's the same thing.

Have you guys experienced this before and can you point me in a direction of rectifying it please?

Thanks

Oof. what release?

If the application certificate expired, you have to renew it in the SMGR CLI.

It's good for 2 years. Once it expires, the https service hosting WebLM on the SMGR stops working. You have to renew it via a CLI command.

There's also possibly a WebLM on the System Platform. Your CM is probably pointed to the WebLM on SMGR - you can check in the CM webpage in the licensing section to see what IP it's pointed to.

If SMGR and CM are on the same System Platform, I'd assume you're running Midsize Enterprise.

The extra fun bit is that the System Manager geneates a root authority certificate on install and is good for 10 years. If that expired, then renewing the application certificate won't help.
You need to be on SMGR 6.3 and I can't remember which service pack, but in the later ones there was a utility added to create a new certificate authority to get around that 10 year problem.
I can't recall if you need to reboot the whole box once to set the time backwards to a point where that root CA cert was not expired in order to run that utility. If so, then you have to reboot twice.

So, is the app or CA cert the one that expired?

Hey, thanks for the response, it's a 6.2 version, and CM is pointed to the WebLM on the SMGR VM machine. The system was installed in 2013 at the customer. I'm now checking that it was installed around the 25th of September 2013, that's exactly 9 years ago, coincidence? How do I get to the smgr cli? It's an HP server, with 2 g450 chassis. Thanks much.

SSH to SMGR.

You can ssh to dom0 of System Platform and, as root, xm console smgr
That will get you the the SMGR console login, which if you only have the root SMGR password, would be the only way to get in cause you can't ssh in as root
