I'm currently using Belkin self laminating cable ID labels. The kind that are 1 x 3 inch. The part you write on is white, the rest is clear and wraps around to cover the part you writes on. Well, the little suckers get unsticky and come unraveled.
Anybody use something that works?

For industrial type work, our panel shop uses a product from impact that is a heat shrinkable, white label that you feed through a pin feed printer and put whatever you want on them. They are maybe overkill, but in an industrial environment they are very very nice. Durable, can be gently shrunk around the cable, etc.

A step down from that, we use a laser sheet with those labels like you described on them that we just print out as we need. In high temp environments they can come off a bit, but for the most part they seem to say. I think we get those from Panduit.

In the field (if I'm not in my van with my laptop and printer) we use a panduit hand labeler with similar wrap around labels or a Brady hand labeler with wrap around or heat shrink sleeves.

I'd ask for a panduit catalog with their labeling products, they are very strong in that line and make a good product.

Good Luck!

It is only my opinion, based on my experience and education...I am always willing to learn, educate me!

We are using the Panduit LS-7. It does a good job for making the labels that you are after. I ordered ours through our local Graybar.

For labeling cables, I use Hellerman/Tyton numbered labels. Sometimes I use a sharpie to mark the cables, but I assume this does not comply with specs now. I also use a P-Touch labeler on occasion.
