Configuring a Cisco router/switch I can do fine. Tweaking stp, routing protocols, no problem. Running a wire from one side of the closet to the other, no problem. Pulling wire, installing racks, etc... not my strong point. Could somebody suggest some required reading?

Well, I don't know of any books and I've never had to install a rack because they've always been there when I got there but a couple of things I can say for sure:
1. Always plan for future growth. Wherever you put your rack, make sure you can attach more later because you will inevitably want or need to.
2. If raised floor is feasible, it's worth it. (Assuming the racks are for a server room)
3. Whenever you plan to pull one cable, pull two. Or 3. (And if you know you are going to do it often, a fishtape is also worth it)
4. Drop ceilings are your friend. Fiberglass insulation hates you. A long sleeve shirt will help but not much.
5. Always try to route cat5 away from flourescent light fixtures. (I'm not sure how well cat6 handles interference as I haven't really used it yet but cat5 and flourescent lights tend to not get along.)

Hopefully that will help some.

For the fiberglas insulation that hates you: talcum powder or cornstarch (baby powder) is a great solution. Put some on your arms and neck before going into ceilings, in addition to long sleeves...

Very good online references above!
