are there any good books or resources on pulling cable, such as type of knots to tie, reading print and spacing staggers of head, diffrent types of supports, diffrent type of ceilings and floors encountered, managing cable, figuring distances, besides true tape, walking wheel or counint ceiling tiles, setting up back pull etc,, thanks in advance..

Leviton has a training center on line called E-Z learn that may assist you.

Try Mike's Basic Guide to Cabling Computers and Telephones. ISBN # 0-9660638-0-5. It was produced in1997, but almost evrything in there is good practice. I am not sure if it will answer all of your questions, but it is a great place to start, and I would recommend the book to anyone.

Hope thsi helps,

Scott M.

Amen. This and Mike Groman's other books are excellent.

Years ago when I got started I had a book from Radio Shack (!) on Residential voice wiring that was really good. It was called something like "IONstalling your Own Phones". It went into considerable detail on how and where to fish wires and how to do concealed wiring.

I probably still have it and if I ever get unpacked from moving I might find it. Of course it would only be available used.

Another good book is volume 2 of the ABCs of Telecom series: "Station Installation and Maintenance". This is voice oriented, of course (sorry for the long URL, watch
the wrap).

ABC Teletraining, the publisher, got bought by AVO.

They do still have this listed for $19.95

I had some communication with AVO and they said that even if they did not have a book listed did not mean the could not provide it. This series has lots of cool information and several volumes have been kept quite current.

They are written in a "Self guided course" format. Vol 16 "The Fine Art of Fault Locating" is a classic. Many other good books in this series.

Best of luck.

BICSI has a cabling manual out called "Telecommnications cabling Installation Manual" that I bought a while back. Very good reading here.
