Goldmine and Heat are driving me loopy & I would really appreciate some help.

We are running Goldmine v6 (using SQL) and Heat Powerdesk v6.4 on a Windows 2000 Server network with Windows 2000 clients & SQL 2000.

Each of these works fine independently, but the integration just will not work no matter what I do!

We have re-installed Heat, Goldmine & SQL numerous times but are having great difficulty using the shared data sources.

The error messages vary on each system, although to my knowledge each system is set-up identically.

I am having 4 main problems:

A) I cannot load the goldmine_sales data source from within Heat. The exact message is “Could not connect to the goldmine_sales external data source”, this is followed by “Error loading validation table definition”.
B) In BDE Administrator some PCs come up with the message "Cannot find engine configuration file" (I have checked the Memory settings & this is set to 7000 - nothing else is sharing the BDE).
C) Other PCs, when you click on 'Validate field' in ‘Heat Contacts’ give the message “Unable to load the sales & marketing API, please confirm the file GM5S32.DLL is installed in your Goldmine directory”. It seems that this file may be from an old version of Goldmine – but we have never used GM5, so why on earth would it be asking for this file?
D) Within Goldmine, none of the PCs can access Heat – there are no errors - some have the integrated fields greyed-out, other PCs just choose to ignore your request for info from Heat.

I’m not sure if all these problems are related, and I have no idea where I am going wrong because all the settings look fine.

Sorry for the long message, but I hope that it all makes sense to someone out there.

Thanks in advance

Bella

Bella,

>The error messages vary on each system, although to my knowledge each system is set-up identically.<

HEAT 6.4 and GoldMine 6 use different integration DLLs ie GM5S32.DLL vs GM6S32.DLL you'll need to ensure each workstation has the GM5S32.DLL in the system directory and in the GoldMine directory.

See DLL Above. This has to be a connection issue.

Set it 5BDE you'll find it probably works better. You need to check this at each workstation.

Yep see first bit. If you need the GM5S32.DLL you can get it from exact case.

Yep, I'd say most of this is down to the DLL being missing. You'll probably need to rerun the quick start wizard for HPD as well.

Richard, you are a wonderful wonderful man!

Thanks very much for taking the trouble to help me - this has meant I have now resolved issues A, B & C.

The only problem that remains is:

D) Within Goldmine, none of the PCs can access Heat – there are no errors - some have the integrated fields greyed-out, other PCs just choose to ignore your request for info from Heat.

I’m not sure if all these problems are related, and I have no idea where I am going wrong because all the settings look fine.

Some additional information that may shed some more light:

Within the 'Tickets' section of Goldmine, one of the PCs has the ability to r-click and has "Heat Powerdesk Options" however if you click on this nothing happens.
All users have the "File-Login" to Heat option available but if you click on it nothing happens.
Also if you try to create a Goldmine contact within Heat, this initially appears to work (It does not produce an error) but does not update the Goldmine Contact Database.

We must be close now - It seems to be that all the integration from Goldmine to Heat is now working, but there is no integration into Goldmine from Heat.

You wouldn't have any more ideas to help me crack it would you?

Regards
Bella

Bella,

You must have the HEAT ODBC connection setup and you can set the access in your Preferences Login tab.

Make sure the user they log into HEAT with exists.

How did you go about setting up the integration
i.e. What were the steps you took.

Obviously came late, to this thread. When you say users don't have access to heat, do you mean that the tickets tab is not there or they cannot see any logged calls that you know are there?

Richard,

I think that the HEAT ODBC connection is setup correctly but we can't use the HEAT log-in button within the Preferences log-in tab.
The button is not greyed-out, it's just that when you click on it, nothing happens.

Leighton21,

We do have the tickets tab, but cannot see the logged calls that we know are there.
If you r-click on the tickets tab, the Heat Options button does nothing (on some PCs it is greyed-out, on others you click on it & nothing happens).

Thanks B

Bella,

Try installing HEAT on to their machines, select the custom installation, install nothing but make sure the GoldMine Sales & Marketing Integration is ticked.

Richard.
