Hi Everyone,

I've recently taken over support of a small business who run Goldmine 5.5 (I know lots about IT, but nothing about Goldmine). The product is localated on Small Buisness Server 2003 (have no idea how it was installed as I didn't do it).

The clients have a shortcut to a share on the server and run the the program by executing \\server1\data\GoldMine\gmw5.exe

All this worked fine until today (may have broken last week, was working fine last Monday), now however when they click on the icon, the egg timer comes up for a few seconds and then disapears. The gmw5.exe process is not running in task manager.

I've rebooted everything and still the same.

Has anyone come across anything like this before?

Thanks in Advance

Hi

Usually this happens when the user gets over zealous and clicks the shortcut icon once to many times. But you would then get multiple GMW5.exe in the processes tab of task manager.

But you say this is not happening, so the 1st thing I would do is to go to a workstation and type \\server1\data\GoldMine\ into the Start | Run to see if it's able to open the root folder of goldmine. Then try running the GMW5.exe icon directly, open the task manager to check the existence of a GMW5.exe process.

Then check the \\server1\data\GoldMine\gm.ini file for any problems. If it has one it should have a setting saying sysdir=\\server1\data\GoldMine\.

I've got a gm.ini file, but haven't looked at what is inside just yet (not currently on site), will have a look tomorrow (28 July 2005).

The workstation CAN open the root of the goldmine folder.

After double clicking the icon, there is no existence of GMW5.exe, it is all very strange.

Will post more information tomorrow when I can look into the problem further.

It's a full version of Goldmine 5.5.

What I done so far. Installed Goldmine on my laptop, backup up the Goldmine directory on the server and restored it over the top of the copy on my laptop. Laptop copy works like it should.

I'm going to remove Goldmine from the server and then reinstall Goldmine on the server. Hopefully it will start working again.

Thanks

make sure there is only one gmw5.exe in the task list at any given time. If you double-double-click the icon, you can end up in this situation and it'll never run. Rebooting or end-tasking on all the instances of gmw5.exe in the list will correct the problem.
