Goldmine Start up issues through VPN

Hey all,
My users are complaining that when they click their desktop GM icon as there are VPN'in to our network it takes about 10 mins to bring up the GM login and password dialog box. It used to be fairly quick. I've tried it and watched performance from task manager and found that the gmw6.exe is the culprit for when trying to connect... I tried installing binary locally on a laptop and tried to launch the App but then recieved errors and decided not to continue..Has anyone come across this?

Are you using the dBase version or the SQL version?

GoldMine was not intended to be run across a VPN like this -- regardless of database platform. The dBase platform, however, if much worse for it. You WILL have extreme performance problems and/or data corruption... period.

I would suggest properly rolling out GoldSync and remote setups for the rmote staff or setting up terminal server or some other remote access system instead.

Yes we are using a MSsql back end , but I am not really familiar with terminal server or Goldsync? Is there any doc's online I can access to see what method you mean?

Well these are a little older (for GoldMine 5) but they shoudl get the point across and are actually somewhat accurate for 6 and even 7. There have been a few additions and improvements to the Sync engine (especially for admins) but the basic idea remains the same.
