Goldmine Mailbox emails lost

During a recent maintenance rebuild there was an issue with the mailbox area and we noticed after that the body of all emails was gone.
The choices now are to rebuild the mailbox from a prior tape backup and I presume lose whatever new is in there since then or can I also just have one of our two notebook users sync as we have two notebook users with goldsync on them. If we choose this option is Goldmine smart enough to pick up their mailbox data or is it date sensitive?
Thanks.

Thanks
Wayne

What you can try doing is restoring the tape back up to a new location, then building a transfer set from it, then retrieve the transfer set to GM

If that doesn't work, try the reverse: take a 1 day transfer set from the 'broken' GM, then restore from back up and retrieve the transfer set

Before doing any of that, make sure you are in the right database for GoldMine. You can get this error if you expect to be in (for example) the Common database, and are in fact in the Demo, or if somehow the golddir path in your GM.ini is changed or invalidated

Then it seems easier to just take a recent tape backup and get the three mailbox files within GMBASE, restore them and copy them into the program replacing what is there now. Agree? We would only lose what has gone into the system since the loss

No, that would blow up in your face the first time you did anything that invoked the sync logs, like a sync, copy, move or delete.

Thanks for your reply but I am still a bit puzzled as to why you say just restoring the gmbase mailbox files from a Sept 1 backup tape would cause sync issues later. The last time the local notebook goldsync users synched was Sept 2nd.
Obviously since then the network version of goldmine has been used and I realizewe would lose any new email history but we would be gaining the recapture of all email history prior to Sept 1. Any other way seems I would also start to lose history data

What if I synched from one of the local gold syncs to the network version from the beginning of time, a lengthy process I am sure.
Or could I just copy the mailbox files from one of the local goldsync notebooks to the network version?

thanks

If you restore any one table and not the entire database, your sync logs are by definition not reflective of the condition of that table

This is bound to cause difficulty. Your sync logs will reflect changes that don't exist in the table
