We have developed a workflow / process control system. PHP driven / SQL script batch process that reads information from a series of user defined screen tabs, then generates a table of intended actions. The PHP / SQL script reads these actions and then writes history and tasks back to Goldmine via the API. It then flings out case progress emails to our IFA customers. An email log is sent to me at completion recording the actions.

PHP scripts run from NT machine, link to win2k machine via socket server PHP scripts and use the API to create records on another win2k machine with the SQL database on.

The batch process runs every hour for weeks at a time and then for an hour or so may show "unable to connect to Golddmine" application messages in the email log. Some failures appear to fix temselves partway through a batch.

All instinct is pointing to connection problems between the two win2k boxes. Our network guys are beginning to look at this, our DBA's are fairly convinced too.

ANY OTHER IDEAS ?

Hi,

Run GoldMine on that machine to make sure you can log into GoldMine. I suspect that it simply cant get to GoldMine via the connection. You could try getting to the SQL via standard ODBC and see if that works as well.

Richard,

Thanks for responding. We have been digging a bit deeper and tracing routes between boxes has revealed a connection that sometimes take 5 seconds. Our PHP socket server connection timeout has been coded at 2 seconds - doesn't stand a chance. We will get out network teckies to look at the cause and if necessary increase our timeout. I begrudge the extra few seconds though !
