Hi.

Does anyone have any information on converting goldmine 5.7 to 6.5. I have recently done this without any luck.

I have never used goldmine before and have been asked by a client to convert to 6.5.

My client has 5.7 and I have version 6.5 in another location

All the contacts and company records have been imported but i cannot import the calls and schedules.

Is it possible to import calls and schedules.

Any help would be appreciated

Hi

5.7 to 6.5 is a standard upgrade, but is this dBase or SQL? You don't need to import data but just copy data from one location to another / or remap the database.

Sounds like that you alredy have the two versions installed.

In this case and assuming it is dBase, I would check the data files in use by the 5.7 installation by checking the system information (Help menu > About)

You want to know the location of the System Files, GoldMine Files and Contact files. Provided nothing has been changed since the install the GoldMine files will be in a folder called GMBase and Contact files in a folder called Common.

Copy across the GoldMine Files Folder and Contact Files folder to the new 6.5 installation.

Then ensure that the new 6.5 is using these files by either changing the GM.INI file in the GoldMine folder, or log into the 6.5 system and go to preference (edit > Preferences) and edit the Login tab.

This will log you out, when you log back in, change the contact set that is being used to the one within the new 6.5 GoldMine folder.

There are some other files / changes that will need updating but this should get you started.

Finally do a rebuild of the 5.7 data.

Thanks rob.

Very helpful information, Your assumption was correct.

After looking in the system information, The reason i did'nt get all the correct calls, and activities ETC.. was that they were in a totally different directory.

Is this strange? or common practive

Am I right in beliving that the Call.dbf file is the sheduled activities?

Thanks again for the info

Hi

Yeah, Cal holds all the Pending activities, calls, appointments, actions, etc.

GoldMine divides the database into two, the Contact set files are essentially the address books and there can be one or more of these.

The GoldMine Files folder is the system / global data and there is just one for each GM installation. The Cal file is these set of files. It is here so that irrespective of what Contact set you are in, you can always see the one diary and avoid double bookings etc.
