We are looking to outsource our web design and programming. We need some ballpark figures of the going rate for web design and also hourly rates for programming of individual web pages. Any direction would be appreciated.
There really is no such thing. You can find some high school or college students that might work at an hourly rate like $10 U.S. and spend 2 weeks to finish. Total cost: 10 * 8 * 14
A Wall Street firm might turn out the same job in the same period of time and charge you $20,000 U.S. Is the resulting site the same? No. Is it what you need? Don't know.
Pete has a point. I recommend if you decide to outsource stuff make sure it's a nice team of players and that they have references and web sites to show.
Most proffessionals don't charge for a per page basis (unless their clients are really gullible). They charge on a per project basis. Or on a hourly basis.
One really nice web design firm I know charges 650$CAD per day per person for their work.
My company charges 400$CAD a day/person for a short contract and around 250$CAD per person/day for a longer term contract (site requiring administration and frequent updates). Though every project is discussed with the client to assess their needs and workload these are ballpark figures I hope can make you better prepared seeking professionals for your outsourcing.
