Going from MiNet to SIP on 5312 and 5324 series phones?

We have 5324 and 5312 model phones connecting to a 3300 IP PBX. I'm assuming these phones are using the MiNet mode to connect.

Do I have to purchase some form of license for the phone to swap over to using SIP mode?

If, down the road, we move to another vendor's IP PBX, do I have to maintain some form of maintenance on the Mitel phones to get the latest SIP software releases or is this a typical free download somewhere?

Thanks.

Both phones can be converted to SIP and used that way if required.
There are no licence requirements to convert them.
As long as you have a Mitel online account you will be able to download the SIP firmware for free.

what version of system are you running. Pre 4.1 u would have needed a SIP user license. 4.1 and later, the license for SIP and MInet is the same

@ Mitelpaasion
I have assumed that cajuntank is not thinking about converting the phones to SIP whilst still connected to the 3300
If so you will lose a lot of mitel specific functionality.

You are correct RE licencing it is now much more simple to invoke SIP devices as they all treated the same as IP phone licences

No, we wouldn't be converting while still connected to the 3300. I have a few small locations with 3300's and 9312 and 9324 handsets. I might be moving to an AVAYA or Cisco solution next year at our HQ (from an AVAYA Merlin system) and don't want to have to re-buy handsets down the road. One of my locations is really small (about 7-8 users) and I was going to do that location at the same time we make our swap at HQ.

SuperNova99, I think you have to be a dealer to have that online account.

Mitelpassion, we are actually about to upgrade (had to repurchase software assurance) our software on all the 3300's to the latest stable rev so I could purchase SIP licenses for these to talk back to whatever I get next year. Had to do this as I won't be able to convert my other small locations till another year or two.

Unless you can get your dealer to nominate you for a MOL account that has access to downloads ( ie nominate you as a dealer ) you won't get access to MOL. There is always this forum and the helpful individuals that populate it. :)
