Not sure if this will modify my code as I post it. Anyway I have a site I am working on , and certain pages keep getting there code changed everytime I upload them. It is through godaddy.

Here is how the page is before I upload it. What I want to know, why is it being modified, and how can I stop it from doing so?

Thanks

At first, I thought, perhaps they don't allow metadata, being that was the first piece missing. However, it looks like much more than that has been changed.

Could it be they have an html filter included in your package? I would have thought that would only be done via any plugins/cms type tools you might use. Is it a static html page?

One other guess is how that you're using the opening <P> tags, but not closing them, best I can tell. If you include the closing tags there, perhaps it'll correct most of the changes.

Try writing a very simple page and validating the code, then uploading that.

I'm hosted on GoDaddy and nothing like that happens to my code.

Contact Go Daddy support and ask them.

kjv, from my knowledge, the p tags do not need to be closed. Most do, but from what I have always understood, they did not need to be. Ive used them for years like that, and ive never had this problem with any other site, till this one. Strangest I have ever seen. I will definitely check to see if there is some type of filter. I have tried both their uploader, and also ftp. Which I prefer using ftp anyway, but it does not seem to matter.

Bigred, I have contacted support, but the responses I get back are very similar to auto responders. Not useful at all. Their help section seems to be halfway messed up right now anyway. The email I sent asking them about that, basically replied back explaining how to use ftp and the uploader, and saying that files will replace other files, etc.. Basically stuff I already know.

I will check for filters like kjv mentioned, as that sounds like something that could be doing it. I write straight code down on a program called coffeecup html editor, just for easy viewing. It allows me to straight code, but it also has a preview button on it. This allows me to quickly view the page, making sure I didn't make any errors on it. So I know the pages are working before I upload them.

If you have any other suggestions, please post.

If the headaches continue, you can always look for a different web host. If you were running a CMS type of site, I'd suggest to definitely fine another host, but with static html files, I doubt it matters a whole lot - on performance.

I just modified the file and made it work. Still kind of curious to why its doing it. But yeah, its all working now.

Now I am just dealing with freeforums.org on something. We had our forum on there for a while, and now are trying to get it backed up in order to transfer it to the site. Was going to pay for a backup, then transfer it over. They have the backup blocked out.

Anyway asked them about that, and their response was "we no longer have the resources to do that, but you can host with us for x amount of dollars a year". Ironic they say that, yet they have an instant restore service for your forum that you can pay for.

So anyway, I do not recommend ever using them.

Thanks for the freeforums.org tip. That's really bad customer service. What happens to all your forum threads if they won't give you a backup?

I'm looking for a forum at the moment. freeforums.org was on my list of possibilities but I'll scratch it.

is my preferred solution at present, though they've not released a new version for 18 months. It's part of the WordPress family, so I don't think it will be left to die. I expect a major new release - hopefully this year.

Well we have been "transferring" our most important ones over one by one. If you are interested in the conversation we had, here it is.

And yeah I agree, that is very bad customer support. I was going to pay so I could backup the forum, but they don't even allow that. The normal backup feature is removed, as used to, you had to pay. Now they have an instant restore, but will not allow you to access it from what I have understood.

Personally, I don't think its "lack of resources", I think its a corporate force or attempt to make sure their "customers" stay with them.

Extremely aggravating after all the time we spent building the forum up.

Suck people in with a free service, then remove features from the free plan and make them pay to get those features back. Ouch. I'm surprised the freeforums.org community isn't up in arms about that!

Another downside I thought of for a hosted forum... if you switch, even if they do give you an export of all the threads and users, they probably won't redirect existing URLs to the new URLs for all those posts. So it's no good for SEO.
