If Gmail is copmalining about Active X needing to be running.
Try these steps to fix.
Set enable for all active X setting in Internet Explorer Options.
1. Open Internet Explorer --> Tools --> Internet Options --> Security Tab --> Cusotm level Button
2. Under Active X Controls and Plugins Enable all Active X Settings, Except those which are flagged as Not Secure. Click OK, close and reopen the browser.
If that does not work then your broswer may have an unregistered .dll
Go to the run box and enter regsvr32 msxml3.dll
