Hi,
right here's the situation:
I have two machines, one running SuSE Linux 7.1 and another running Mandrake 8.0
On the SuSE, when I try to install Corel Wordperfect 2000 I get a glibc error. Now I've been to search.corel.com/kbsearch and founf and article which suggested I try using an install script from console. I did and I get an error glibc 2.2 not supported only 2.0 and 2.1 supported. Is there anything I can do? Can I 'downgrade' my glibc. Corel have been no more help. On Mandrake, however, WPO2000 installs fine but when I try to run it I get the error: "Unable to add FonTastic font server to the font path. The font server is not runnig or not installed"
Any Ideas? (I hope I don't have to use the Corel Linux distribution to run WPO2000 as it doesn't seem to be as stable as either SuSE or Mandrake)

Hi,

Hmmm tricky... On the Suse - if you want to take a risk you could try installing the redhat backwards-compatability rpm --> ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/redhat/7.1/en/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS/compat-glibc-6.2-2.1.3.2.i386.rpm . This rpm contains glibc 2.1.3 and gets round the problem you describe with suse (its sets up both 2.2 and 2.1 glibc). However, I'm not familiar enough with Suse to know if this would install transparently, i.e. without causing any problems. As far as I can see Suse themselves don't have a similar rpm. For glibc in general you can see --> .

On the Mandrake.. have you checked your XF86Config or XF86Config-4 file to make sure it has the following added to other FontPath entries :

FontPath "tcp/localhost:7102"

Fonttastic is a server that by default runs on TCP port 7102 and X has to know about it.
Also, is fonttastic running ? Try 'etc/rc.d/init.d/fonttastic restart'. You would need to do '/sbin/chkconfig --level 2345 fonttastic on' to turn it on automatically.

Hope this helps..

Thanks for the help.

I'm going to try the SuSE solution when I get a good backup, as for the Mandrake, there is no fonttastic in
etc/rc.d/init.d

I'll look on the Mandrake site. (I thought I did a full install from the distribution... )

Thanks again,

Oscar McMahon.
