glib-config missing

I'm having trouble compiling XChat and XMMS under Mandrake 8.2 (and had the same problem under 8.1). configure reports that glib-config can't be found, and I've confirmed that it isn't anywhere under /usr, even though I have glibc + glibc-devel 2.2.4 installed. The same thing happens looking for gtk-config.

Any ideas?
