I need to export data from our payroll system to be imported into Great Plains 8.0 for several of our clients.
Is there any documentation that is available to describe the file layout? We do not have a copy of Great Plains to dig into it and we will only be able to export some files. We will use crystal reports for the export so we can add and move items in the file pretty well.

These 3 files will contain for a given payroll
1. Detailed GL Entries for the payroll.
2. Check register for the same payroll. (Direct Deposits as well)
3. Billing, Tax, and Direct Deposit transfers from client to us for the payroll.

We could however get at the data via the Payroll sdk and Vb script if there is a way to call this from Great Plains and update the data.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

There are several ways of getting data into Great Plains:

- use Intergation Manager
- use eConnect
- use the Great Plains Payroll Connect module
- import directly into the tables

The first three are made to use the Great Plains business logic, going directly to table should only to be done for very simple tasks or with a lot of experience and even more testing.

If you are looking for something very simple, just to do GL imports, take a look at Payroll Connect - you give the client a flat file, they import it in, done. Either your clients or their Great Plains partner(s) should be able to help you get details on this.

Just a word of warning - if your clients are using the Bank Rec module for the payroll cash account, you are going to need a lot more than a simple GL import for your files 2 and 3, since these will need to be bank transactions in Great Plains.

Hope that helps,
Victoria
