hello,

just wondering how i can give text a curve shape or heart shape or any other shape for that matter in illustrator.
do i need to create outlines?
what tools will bend the word?

thank you,
DGTLguy

You don't have to create outlines. Just write your text, draw your shape over it, and select both of them. Then go to Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Top Object. If you need to edit the text, you'll need to select Edit Contents from the same menu.

Envelope Distort??
i don't see that under my object menu.
i'm using illustrator 9.

It is a feature with Illustrator 10.

can anybody give me a suggestion for illustrator 9?

I guess you can draw text on any curve(on plane) starting with next release of Illustrator(i.e. AI CS).
It should be just as easy as drawing a path and writing out text on it.
I believe even next release of Photoshop would have these features, with them working seemlessly across both the APPS.
