I'm responsible for setting-up and giving our Salesman laptops. Should I also give them all of the CD's that come with the computer or should I hold onto everything?

Looking for suggestions. Thanks!

Unless they're responsible for maintaining their laptop i would keep everything or it will only go missing, if there's a driver CD you think they might need then give them a copy of put the drivers on the hard drive.

When you are the IT director, it's your job to make sure the IT works. If it does work they know already and if it doesn't, they don't want to hear your pathetic excuses.

As well as drivers, I would also copy any laptop or peripheral equipment manuals/guides from CD to hard disk so they are always available.

Did this again and again !!!!!

1) There are two types of (l)user
A) Returns kit after 5 yrs of service with original boxes, manuals, disks, printed e-mails of instructions etc etc
B) Posts you the laptop back for update, from another country, IN A JIFFY BAG !!!!!!!!!!!

2) Put EVERYTHING POSSIBLE onto the laptop, drivers, links to works server, links to manufacturers websites, copies of the documention and training you have slaved over to convince them that a laptop, a broadband connection, a secure vpn ARE actually preferable to a scrawled fax in handwriting that would put a drunk dyslexic spider to shame, a written manual (inc screenshots) of how to do the three things they actually need to do (with segregated and numbered icons etc etc etc

& 3) DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CELL NUMBER (Only joking !!) :)

BTW both A & B of number 1 HAVE HAPPENED !!!!!!!!!

<Do I need A Signature or will an X do?>

Yep it's surprising how some people treat their laptop like a precious jewel and others like it's a games console that can just be chucked in the corner, have things piled on it and the rest. The differences in condition that they come back in is unreal and lets not talk about the amount of support they want when 'they' have blatantly broken it installing games, wireless cards, FREE software from the net...... [spin2]

Yeah, I'm a bit worried, I have already caught one guy throwing his laptop into his car. Any thoughts on purchasing the upgraded warranties?

make sure you copy the i386 folder to somewhere on their laptop...or not perhaps :)
