Howdy -

I just set up MOSS2007 on a stand alone Windows 2003 Enterprise server box with sql Server 2005.

How do I configure that server to recognize active directory users from another sever so they can have permission to a my sharepoint site?

thanks,
Rob

I'm not positive that this will work (I don't have a similar environment to test on) - but it may be a good start.
Open you SSP Administration and click on User Profiles and properties. Click on View Import Connections, and then create a new connection to the AD you need to use.

It's got to be possible.

large organizations with sharepoint don't necessarily install the MOSS on the AD server. it's a resource hog.

I'll investigate your suggestion.

hi Rob
Can the two boxes see each other?
not sure if it's the same as 3.0 but in that all we do is when we add users type in there name as \\server1.otherone\username ( might have the slashes back to front can't remember)
let it search and it should find it ok. thats all ive done with sharepoint boxes i've set up.
Hope that helps

correction as long as the two machines can "see" each other all you should need to do is type in the domain the user belongs to the the user name : mydomain\username then click on the check user button. or
if there's a browse button search for the user on the domain then click add. and then apply permissions as required.
