Am a professional graphics person with not enough hardware experience - except to be dangerous. I, and virtually everyone over 50 in my old company, recently were down-sized out of a job. I found myself at home with an old Power Tower pro that couldn't ooerate above OS 9.2, and the need to get up to speed with all new OSX 10.3.2 Panther-loving software in order to climb back into the job market. Macromedia Studio MX and Adobe CS wouldn't work with my old computer so I bought an eMac with lotsa memory and what I thought was everything I needed to get up anf running. My problem now is an Epson Stylus Color 1520 printer which misbehaves at time. It is a large format printer that is hooked up with a parallel-to-USB cable. For some reason, Epson denies responsibility for support on this machine for OSX, so the driver is a stable one - not a beta - gimp-print from SourceForge. (I always wondered why if SourceForge could figure out the interface, that Epson couldn't)
Anyway, I have two oddities that manifest themselves: one - the print job remains in the print queue even after having been printed, and two - after having printed, the printer loses contact with the computer and for the next attempt to print, it gives a "Can't find printer" warning in the printer dialog box. To reestablish printing, I have to reboot both the computer and the printer. I do know that the parallel to USB cable is sometimes suspect - but the one I have is supposed to work okay. I would appreciate any discussion from hardware-knowledgeable posters with a greater knowledge in this area than I have. The slightest hint may offer the solution that fixes it. Thanks from all the 1520 users that may benefit.
