Gimp making graphics using Perl

I am thinking of trying to make some perl-scripts that generates images using the gimp. My hosting will make any libraries needed avaiable if I ask. So to the problem, what libraries and so on is needed to be able to make some graphics on the ly using gimp? And where can I find them?

The main purpose for me using gimp is to make logos, so if anyones knows where i can find some "templates" that makes nice graphical letters (drop shadow, stroke, textures, mirror-effects etc), I would really appreciate if you could post the url here.
