I am attempting to take a fairly stark black and white image and turn it into a washed out image, suitable for inserting into a Crystal report so it will appear as a watermark. I just downloaded the program today, and this is a bit of a rush project for my boss, so I am wondering of someone can help out this newbie to image manipulation??

Thanks in advance!

Open the picture in GIMP.

Go to Tools / Color Tools / Levels

Move the slider (the little triangle) under the Ouput Levels scale (the second one) from black toward white until the black becomes as faint as you like. If you click on the "Preview" box you can see what you're getting, but you have to let up on the mouse button first). When you get what you want, click OK.

Save the image (preferrably to a different file, just in case).
