I'm looking for gigabit LAN adapter that is working on Asus P2 and P3 server board. I tried a couple of cards mentioned PCI 2.1 compliant but they are totally not detected at all. I have PCI 2.1 Compliant enabled on both server boards. Is there any suggestion or idea, or gigabyte LAN adapter won't work on old architecture except P4 or above?

Which ones have you tried?

I would go with either a 3Com or an Intel Pro 1000 have had no problems with these at all...

though I have not used a P2 & P3 board in ages...

I have tried Linksys, Netgear, DLink & Realtek (the actual adapter, not the chipset) but they're all not detected either on Bus Mastering or shared PCI slot. I tried to allocate a specific IRQ, not working either. So, should I try Intel or 3Com, any particular model?

Is it that they're not being detected in Windows, or is it early on by the BIOS/POST detection which gives the IRQ allocated?

Try an ISA slot [smile]

Seriously, have you tried other PCI devices (10/100 LAN, modem, audio etc.) in your available PCI slots?

Do you have any PCI-X slots (NOT PCIe)?

Ummmm...... not be too disparaging about your system, but time to replace that PC!?!?!?! I mean, putting a gigabit network card into a Pentium III motherboard is like putting a Ferrari engine into a Minivan - sure the one component will go super fast (if you can get it to work), but the rest of the system is not up to the task.
