Gigabit ethernet problem on aix

Hi I'm installing an Gigabit Ethernet-SX PCI Adapter
(Type 9-U)on IBM p620(AIX 5.1 ML7). I cannot get link light on my adapter. So i cannot ping network systems after configuring my ethernet adapter. But i can see tx optical light on adapter connector.
The connection is done with a cisco switch catalyst 3550 series. On aix, my adapter is available with errors and everything seems to be ok. Who can give help?

Check the port speed on the Cisco switch. Try hard setting both to 100 Full duplex, I've seend the problem a couple of times before & this seems to fix it.

Think you for replay Mike. Was is with a catalyst 3550? On my aix there's no errors. The adapter looks like ok. How can i set the catalyst port speed to 100full?

If you know the management IP just point a browser to it, if not you'll have to find a blue cisco console cable and use the menu to change the port speed. I'm not a Cisco bod but it was pretty easy to work out how to change the speed.

the adapter is an gigabit adapter. Why must i hard set the switch to 100full?
