GIGA -OSX mac slow write to 6E4 AIX 5.2

I have a strange situation.
OSX 10.3.4 MAC and OSX server both have a slow write issue to 6E4 AIX 5.2 - around 7MB/sec.
Same MAC writes 50MB/s to an OSX server.
All stations on the same GIGA switch.The local support claims that a cross cable connection did not help much.
If ,then,6E4 mounts OSX server volume over NFS - I get 70 MB/sec rcp speed when pulling a file from OSX server to 6E4 (rcp runs from 6E4).
Smells like some OSX GIGA issue with recognising the network speed (100BT/1000BT) in certain cases.
Any ideas ?
