Has anyone had nay issues if they use more then 3 recommends Gig stacks when using CM. The recommendation is to split the Gig Stacks in a LAN to 2/3 so not to increase the delay through the stacks but this involves additional costs -fibre cards, fibre etc. It is also to do with half dulpex

thanks

Not sure what your actual question is, rephrase it..

But if i get you right, its best not to stack more than 3 switches due to the hop count.. Get a core switch and then uplink all lower switches to it..

as for the halfduplex, do not run VoIP on half duplex...

It only goes to half duplex if you connect more than 1 switch to a giga-stack GBIC. We have two gigastacks per 3550 switch and we do some diasy chaining with them. This keeps the links at full duplex. I group my switches into groups of 3 and then plug the the top and bottom into our core switch. This way, no switch has more than 2 hops to the core.

I let spanning tree decide whitch switch the middle unit will communicate through. You do need extra GBICS, but you can find them on ebay for really cheap. Depending on the closet, I could have as many as 4 of these setups.

formatting got a little screwed up there.

Thats the recommendation we have been given too but is there an issue keeping 4 stacks and not splitting it to 3?

As long as you are not dasiy chaining more than 1 device per gigastack, then you should be OK. That is 1 cable per gigastack. You would need 2 gigastacks per switch.
