I have a client who is using POS software from a non-traditional company it handles gift certificate/card sale and redeem in a pretty funky mess.

For some reason I can't recall how Micros and Aloha handle gift certificate/card sale and redeem. If anyone can give me a little assistance it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

When selling a GC Micros can sell either a Menu Item (GST exempt) or as a Non Revenue Service Charge (my preferred).
When redeeming a GC it is a standard tender with REFERENCE.
In Micros' GSS module you can link these automatically (from service charge / menu item & link it to the Tender with MATCHING reference) and do it all from the POS, which makes it pretty cool.
There is then a whole lot of reports etc available including GC Liability (oustanding GCs).

I am writing a SIM script with custom tables to do my own Micros Gift Certs at the moment

Just happen to stumble on this thread. We process our gift cards through the Micros iCare program, and it works great, but it costs about $700 in fees per year PLUS the cost of the cards and gift envelopes. Is there anyway to carry on our current gift card program less expensively? It just seems we'll never be able to do anything different. It is illegal to expire gift cards in our state (Indiana) so how would we handle all the outstanding gift cards? Always wondered about that . . .

Credit card processors offer this service as well.

to clarify I am asking how the POS system itself handles it.

Not asking about how they are processed.

Your responses are greatly appricated.

Aloha is a seperate add-on you have to pay for. The FOH interfaces with it when a server selects sell from a menu screen or redeem from their payment screen.

The back office part is kind of straight forward once trained on it.
The user can buy their cards from whoever they want.
They have to follow a specific numbering scheme.
When the cards arrive, the customers enters them into the giftcard software.
They can sell them one at a time or 100 of them at $50 each all at once from the backoffice software.
The servers can sell them at the POS by swiping the empty card to an open check and closing it to a payment.

Hi to EatAtParkys,

ICare is good for a multi-outlet store where loyalty is available at all your outlets, and you use 3700 at multiple sites OR are using E7. If using 3700 at a single site you could use GSS. The cards you can get burnt youself, with opening sentinal of ; closing sentinal of ? and the number of chars in between eg 12345678 as long as they are unique, and can be alpha numeric eg hkc123456z.

Hi to MPJoseph,
To describe the processing aspect with Micros 3700 GSS AND with the Micros ICare , as you issue the card you can either swipe or use the onscreen keyboard from the POS unit. A barcode reader can also capture the number. The value is set at the time of sale.
When redeeming the number can be entered via onscreen keyboard, MSR (mag stripe reader) or barcode reader when using the LINKED TENDER (the payment tender is linked to your loyalty system with an INTERFACE, usually SIM)
If trying to redeem for more than the voucher it will prompt with the issued amount with Yes/No to continue.

Is this helping?
