Hi,

I have to create GIFs a lot because I need transparent backgrounds. The images look bad and grainy.

Can you save a GIF at 300 resolution...so that it looks better..or is 73 dpi the max it will save as?

Does anyone know the best way to save a GIF? adaptive/exact/dither?

If anyone has knowledge on this...please let me know. Thanks.

gif 128 no dither maybe?.and you can save .png files with transparent backgrounds as well..you get ultimate quality that way..little larger file size, but better quality..

Thanks for the info... Can all web browsers read PNG files? if not...i am reluctant to use it.

Do yo know whether GIFs be saved at a resolution higher than 73 dpi?

wouldnt matter if you could as monitors are only capable of displaying 72 dots per inch.

well technically, resolution depends on the size of the art. If you have an image that is 10"x10" at 72 dpi and you reduce it by 50% you have an image that is 5"x5" at 144dpi (72x2=144). 75% and its 2.5"x2.5" at 288dpi.

This is all mute since Gif is a lossy format and any quality you retained by increasing the resolution would be damaged by the format you saved it in. Gif is a standard invented by I think Netscape way back when they ruled in trying to make images smaller by "describing" areas of color as opposed to per/pixel data. If you want nice hi res prints, Tiff (.tif) or the Tagged Image File Format is the only way to go.
