GIF doesn't appear in body of email

Need a little help with this one...

We use Outlook 2003 and when a particular user receives an email that has a GIF pasted in the body of the email it shows as an attachment with a large white space (no red X) where the picture would be. However a JPG shows just fine. If he double clicks the attachment the gif opens normally.

My guess is that it's related to the default program association for .gif's. Are .gif's set to open with something other than IE?
 
Outlook doesn't show embedded graphics by default because it's unsafe. Malicious code can be hidden inside graphic images.

You can right-click on the white space where the image would normally be shown and select "show images" instead of double-clicking on them and opening them.
