gif displays as text - not image

I display an image in a VFP 8 report. All the images are stored as gif files and are appended into a general field just before the report runs. This works on my PC <g>.

On the user's PC they get the name of the gif file displayed instead of the image. If they delete the gif file then they get a "File not found" error so we know that the file is being found; it's just not being displayed.

I've not been able to get to site yet but my only thought so far is that perhaps they don't have any application associated with a gif on their PCs. Has anyone seen this behaviour before?

Answering my own post - I've just seen this in an ADO post from Dave Summers;

Second, you must have the same imaging application installed on each computer which tries to read the file

Yes, that's correct. If there is no application associated with the extension, they'll see a generic icon with a filename.

I think that this user is one who uses Terminal Services so the problem might be that the server doesn't have anything associated.

I've just tried to clear the association on my PC to see if I could replicate the problems here but I can't see how to remove the association.

Instead I associated Notepad with gifs. If I double-click on a gif I get gibberish in Notepad but the image still displays correctly in the report. How very odd.

The association would have already been stored in the table (memo file filed) along with the image itself.
That's why the exact same application needs to reside on the 'other' computer (terminal services host) as the application in use on 'your' computer when the image was imported.

Thanks Dave, that would explain everything. I've got Paint Shop for all my images and (of course) the server hasn't.
