I have two western digital hard drives, one is a 120 gig the other is a 250.

The 120 gig has 4 partitions on it, the 250 has 5 partitions on it. The first 3 partitions of both drives are exactly the same size. the last partition of the 120 gig is slightly smaller than the 4th partition of the 250 gig.

When i ghost, everything copies perfectly except for the 4th partition of the 120 gig. The said partition of the 250 gig shows the space as being used, but the data doesn't show up when viewing the contents of the drive.

To sum it up i guess, Ghost 2003 has trouble copying the contents of a partition to one that is bigger on the 250 gig hard drive. Is there any software you guys can recommend that will let me accomplish this?

Thanks!

Not perhaps the most elegant way of doing it but...

Resize the 4th partition on the 250Gb drive so it's identical to that of the 120Gb. Ghost it across, then resize back to original capacity.

drpcken,

I do not favor Ghost for reasons that you are experiencing. I assume that you are trying to make a backup of the 120 to the 250 and that both drives are installed in the same PC with the 120 as your main(boot) drive.
If that is the situation, you have several ways to accomplish this reliably.

WD provides a utility for the installation of their drives and it is free. Load this utility and select setup a new drive. Then let the software quick format the backup drive and select "install this drive as a new boot drive". You will generate an identical image of the current boot drive and just refrain from actually swapping this drive as the boot drive.
If you donot have the WD software you can get it here:

Data Lifeguard Tools for Windows

If you do this on a repeated basis you might want to look at Acronis True Image software as it is an excellent imaging app and has other features that might interest you.

If you would like to investigate this look here:

Acronis True Image

Hope this helps

I've never use Ghost, but I definitely know that True Image can create image HDD and restore it on partition, which has enough free space (it could be bigger, but mustn't be smaller then partition that you image). I restored image of my old HDD (40Gb) onto new (80Gb) and everything was clear. You may do it manually: create images of separated partition and restore them in order by turn. I've heard that some program can't support large disks over 180 Gb, but Acronis successfully solve this problem.
