What is the easiest way to take part of an illustration and ghost it so another part of the graphic is more pronounced? I'm an AutoCAD guy by trade but I need to bring some of my graphics into Illustrator 10 for further editing...by the way it's Illustrator 10 for Windows. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like what you might want to do is make an opacity mask. Here's what I did in Illustrator 9 just to see if it would work and it seemed to:

1. Using the Pathfinder palette> Minus Front, I created a square with another square cut out of it--a frame basically. I positioned the hole in the frame over the part I wanted to leave more pronounced. The solid part of the frame covered the part I wanted to ghost.

2. I filled the solid part of the frame with a dark gray.

3. In the Transparency palette flyout menu I chose Make Opacity Mask.

I was left with a square "pronounced" section (where the hole in the frame was) and the rest was faded out a bit.

Maybe that will work?
