ghostery - worth exploring

I hope this is the right place to post this.

I cam across this the other day.


It claims to stop tracking - I gave it a go but it stopped me typing in googles search box so for now I have uninstalled it. It look interesting however so I though I might solicit the opinions of others.

Any comments?

I'm using it. I haven't see it interfere with Google search.

Ah - light dawns - LOL Thanks for reminding me - I had forgotten where I heard about it.

It seemed at first to do very little, I think I got a notification or to on Amazon and eBay - then later on I went to check something and went to google, like one does and I could only type about a character every 2 or 3 seconds! So it looks like it doesn't get on with something, somewhere - maybe the google toolbar?

Yeah, it does absolutely "little" (nothing) unless you tell it block things. I'm not using it to block things, just to see what web sites are running. It's kind of like looking through your friend's email - you learn what they're up to.

I told it to block everything - maybe that was my mistake?

I got this email from Ghostery this afternoon

"Thanks for using Ghostery. Unfortunately, you seem to be in a small segment of Ghostery for IE users that has a system that conflicts with the extension. In your case, the best alternative here is to try using Ghostery on either Firefox or Chrome. We're currently testing Ghostery for IE9, as well, which will hopefully solve these problems when it's released."

So I guess I have to wait if I want to use it with IE

Yeah, I should have said I use Firefox. It didn't seem to block much of anything on IE.
