Has anyone got these?

You could save me some time by posting on the web or emailing me disk images. I realise it's a lot to ask on a forum; can you think of a favour I can return? I'm in the UK...

I assume both servers ship with a standard (for the server type) on-board SCSI controller, please put me right if this is not the case and a bootdisk with 'universal' drivers is not possible?

Thanks

BF

370 depends on g2 /g3 - has 2 onboard scsi but array controller is a seperate board - think it's a 5300 or older one's a 5i

380 's similar but it's on board i think - it's 5i or something like that as well

can check at work later if you want

the compaq smart start has the drivers on it and you can make a boot disk with it

Thanks for that, that knowlege helps already.

If you could check I'd be grateful; in the meantime I'll have a look in Device Manager on the servers here, I assume there will be a tell-tale in there about the controller type.

If the controllers are the same type a single bootdisk should be feasible, I've got the smartstart CD though I've only used it once in a build some time ago. Is the smartstart CD particular to the server type, or does Compaq use some kind of universal one?

Moving on from that, are there any known gotchas in imaging drives off and back on to the SCSI volumes? Our system partitions use mirrored sets, nice and simple. I'm currently having trouble getting Ghost to run on a IBM Netfinity server: it worked, but when the SCSI drives were swopped around Ghost stopped working. I'm still working to figure out how/why.

Kind regards

BF

i'll check tomorrow
ibm's are murder

smartstart are generic - cover all os and most models

370's will be 5.4 for older one's - new one's ship with 6.4

best way to check is use insight manager
as long as agents are installed on server then go to - login using password that was set during build (if unknown - defaults are password ,administrator)
then you will see a full list of all hardware in a nice printeable report - tell you all components , all firmware levels etc

Got in on the HP/Compaq via web interface, thanks for the tip! I thought the ILO card was for remote admin; I didn't know you could remote-admin through the 'front door' as well. The things you learn.

Thanks for the info about Smartstart being generic, good news.

I sorted the IBM out as well, Images are now going up and down. I managed to find an image of the SCSI array configurator CD and run Ghost with the right switches.

I'll start creating a boot disk for the Compaqs then!

Thanks again

BF
