Lately i've been running my ti4400 in agp 2x mode, because that works fine. its fast enough to play everything in a high resolution, but i really want to get it working in 4x mode. my mobo is a Gigabyte ga-7vrxp. i flashed the bios to f11. i have 4072 detonators. i have the latest directx as far as i know (running xp SP1, and the latest directx is included in the latest service pack). it is a via board so i got the latest 4in1 drivers... what else could it be??? its really annoying. it begins to work fine when running a benchmark in 3dmark but hangs up about the 3rd test.

kevmuldoon1,

You've done just about all there is to do. However, I've seen this procedure posted as a fix for others who had similar problems:

1) Uninstall Nvidia's detonator drivers (don't reboot)
2) Uninstall the Via 4-in-1 drivers (don't reboot)
3) Remove the display adapter for your card from device manager
4) Reboot
5) Ignore the prompt to install your video card's drivers (let it use a generic driver for now) and reinstall the 4-in-1 drivers first
6) Reboot
7) Now, update the drivers for the display adapter to the latest Detonator version
8) Reboot and enter your BIOS
9) Change it back to 4x and keep your fingers crossed!!

This has worked for some. Apparently, the detonator drivers like to be installed "after" the Via 4-in-1 on some systems...

Star for the concise post, cdogg, and I would only add that the instructions you give almost verbatim match those in the manual for a 7500 ATI Radeon card I'm putting in a new system. (altho in the manual, of course, they're not for correcting kevmuldoon's problem)
Perhaps you could fashion an ATI FAQ (I'd better look, you may already have done it) that'll solve a lot of the posts we get 'round here concerning ATI video card installs. (emphasis stalls)

I had the same problem with my M830 board, I removed all my ram except for 1 stck and it works fine now, you might try that.

Thanks gargouille! Yeah, I've got another FAQ that I'm working on right now. Looks like I've got my work cut out...
