gf 4 mx 440 keeps locking up

i have just installed a gf4 mx 440 and it keeps locking up when playing games and somtimes even at the boot screen.
some technical info:

MB: abit kr7a-raid
pross: amd 2000+
os: windows xp (just formated and reinstalled)
3d card: exair 3d color geforce 4 mx 440
latest nvidia and via 4in1 drivers

Just a couple of ideas pop into my head:
Power supply inadequate (may be worth just swopping out to be sure.
And motherboard bios (seems some boards don't like the GF4's and require some updated bios info to work correctly) and with the KR7a being several months older than any GF4 the original bios wouldn't have taken this card into consideration.
Latest SP1 service pack for XP?
