I just moved into my new m35x-s111 Toshiba laptop (from a 1115-s111 Toshiba laptop!) and much to my amazement, none of the Gexpert CTRL+ALT+... commands do not work.

When I try them, nothing happens.

CTRL+ALT+DEL works on this laptop.

It is a standard 101/102 keyboard with some multimedia buttons with a driver from Dritek System Inc.

I suspect there is something wrong with the keycodes being generated by this keyboard.

Both machines had Windows xp home and I'm running Delphi 5.01

This is driving me nuts and wasting a lot of time!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
Tom

update (couldn't see how to edit original post):

CTRL+ALT+UP,RIGHT also do not work in Microsoft Publisher.

Still do no work with USB keyboard connected.

I am currently doing a clean restore of the laptop since it is new and I can afford to lose what I have already installed.

Will keep informed.

Tom

BTW, if someone can think of a simple app that uses this key combination, it would be interesting to see if the display at Best Buy handles it correctly.

This is a longshot from my hip...

I had a similar problem with my Dell computer.
But this occured when using Total Commander.

My graphics card redirected some of my CTRL-combinations.
I had to disable them in my Graphics card settings.

ICQ does the same thing.

Nordlund,

You may be closer than you think!

I talked to a "2nd level" tech at Toshiba and he suggested trying to create another user and see what happens, and then if that didn't work, restore the hard drive.

Since I didn't have a lot of time on this new laptop, I did a fresh reinstall and guess what? It works correctly now! I have only gotten Delphi 5 installed, but I'm sure Publisher will work too.

What made me suspect this might be required is that I had to reinstall the audio drivers to get an adequate sound output from the speakers - so something was not right there.

And then, there was this crazy behavior where the task bar window buttons somehow got "cross linked" with their respective windows during maybe Gexperts install - can't remember the details. The result was that when you closed one of the taskbar window buttons, THE WRONG WINDOW CLOSED!

ALL of the task bar buttons referenced the WRONG windows!!!!

So, somehow, I think the whole installation was damaged.

I'll know for sure in the next few days.

Tom

PS. I am replacing a 2 year old Best Buy Toshiba $500 laptop, and this old one worked for 2 years, every day, and NEVER missed a beat. NEVER hung. NEVER needed a reboot. Worked like a SUN WORKSTATION. Now I haven't had this new Toshiba laptop in use for 3 days and I'm already getting a sick feeling.

FYI: old laptop: Satellite 1115-S103, new laptop: Satellite M35X-S111. Both $500 deals at BB.
