This question was posted on macromedia.flash and has yet to receive a response. I'm having the same problem:

I'm learning Flash (v5), so this is probably a beginner's mistake. I've followed the lesson for making a button. The button works fine. (E.g. it changes state when you mouseover, press down, etc.) I'm trying to get the button to load a web page when the user clicks on it. But when I generate the .swf and load it in an HTML file, the movie plays and then immediately loads the page. It doesn't wait for a mouse click.

This was in a larger flash piece, with 6 buttons. So I tried making a mini Flash piece with just one button and nothing else. Same problem. Run it and it just loads the web page right away.

I know I missing something simple, but I can't find it in the TechNotes or the doc or in any of my several books.

Any help would be appreciated.

first off to have the movie stop on teh last frame you need to put a stop() command on ne of teh last frames.

to get a url from a button right click on teh button in teh frame where it is and go to sctions...go to basic actions and click on getUrl and then type in teh url..you can target new browser window or the parent one your in.
