Getting to work with Compaq 35/70 DLT?

I've tried to no avail to get Backup Exec 8.0 to work with a Compaq 35/70 DLT... I'm no expert on tape backup, but I've been able to get it working with a standalone single Compaq drive... I've had this DLT sitting unused and now it's attached and is recognized.

The drivers are there, Backup Exec sees it and recognizes it ... but I've tried a simple C: drive backup and it just doesn't work.

Any ideas, or places to go from more info on DLTs and Backup exec?

Thanks,
Vikram

What errors are you getting, whats happening exactly when you try to backup, have you tried running a backup that is successsful on another tape device, let us all know and someone may be able to help

Cheers

Great domain name too, you lucky man :)

Hehe - it's called being lucky back in '97 to register it.

Anyway, it isn't so much of errors, as nothing is happening.

I'm currently taking the tape in slot 1 and just running a 'Quick Erase'... nothing has happened in over 1 hour.

Even 'Inventory' etc, nothing happens... my test of C: backup went 15 hours before I stopped it.

In Configure Device Wizard, I get this:

Changer COMPAQ 1(Port 3, Bus 0, Target ID 4, Lun 0)
(under it attached)
COMPAQ 35/70GB DLT LDR (Port 3, Bus 0, Target ID 5, Lun 0)

And I have been stuck trying to get even 1% of a job done. I've ruled out SCSI issues (but could that be something to look into)

Like I said, this DLT was brought out after a long time of inactivity, but so far it's recognized by the software.

Thanks for any help,
Vikram
