Hello,

Over the last year a (new) website of mine has gradually become more popular, particuarly because of its Google rankings and more keywords being recognized. I am now satisfied that I am in the top 10 for every combination of keyword(s) that are suitable to search.

I have firstly noticed that most the websites above have a lower page rank, and some do not explicitly mention the keywords searched as often as I have in the title, description and domain.

I used an excellent book to help me SEO this website and followed every step to ensure I would have a good ranking. Now, I seem to be stuck at position 5 - 9 and I will not go up any further...

Is this just a process which will take a bit more time, considering the website has only been up less than a year or does anyone else have any further advice to help?

The website is: medical-course.co.uk

Thanks alot

Chris

Probably just due to poor semantic layout. No <h1>, <h2> structure. Words displayed as headlines (<h1> etc) are likely to be rayed more important than other text.

There have also been some theories that tables (designed for tabular data only) will be rated less important that actual body text, which has been put forward as yet another reason to move forward from the old-fashioned table layout style.

Thanks alot Johnwm,

I am still a novice at CSS and I know I should be using it for future developments. Past experiences with CSS have proven that I have issues whislt running in cross browsers so I sort of gave up.

As for H tags etc, I was planning on using them as they seem to be the only thing I didn't use.

I am most afraid of a large update, i.e. complete redevelopment of the website, that I will lose my rankings. How can I stop this from happening?

Thanks again

Adding a proper heading structure (with an H1 at the top containing relevant words) is never going to adversly effect your ranking. Adding it will provide some fresh content for the engines to feed on as well.

Sounds like you are doing pretty well... congratulations [smile]

Cheers,
Jeff

Thank you BabyJeffy,

On the next update I will change some of the important headings to ensure they are wrapped with H1 tags and probably a couple of H2 tags.
