hello again;
My problem is that in my movieclip, i have a spot where you can trigger GetURL, but once you close the webpage and return to the movie, it doesn't pick right up where it left off. Could someone please tell me the script i need to pause the movie as the reader gets the url and then have the movie automatically pick up where it was paused without the reader needing to push any buttons?
thanks

Hoss

Ummmmmmmh!
Guess you would have to stop your movie, when the getURL is triggered (making sure the link is opened in a new window), and then when that window is closed (with an onBlur event), re-start the movie with javascript from that onBlur event.

Oh, god that just sounds wonderfully difficult. Okay, i'm off to look up onblur. You know i hope the makers of flash read these forums cause they could learn a lot.

okay looked up onblur and that seems to be a webmaster's domain - which i'm not. So, does anyone have any idea how to get this movie moving again from the point that it was stopped? There must be some way in flash mx. I can't be the only one that's ever wanted to geturl during a movie and then have the movie pick up where it left off.

I'll even do another button! something! Anything!

Is there a way i can code from inside flash mx that when the new window is closed a new button pops up saying 'continue with movie'?

Is there a way to 'pause' the movie when the geturl is hit, and as soon as the window is closed the movie takes off again?

God, a vcr can pause while I go get a drink, flash mx should be able to too.

Help

I can try re-creating your setup, but I might miss something... Would be easier if you posted a link to your .fla (zipped up and in MX only format), or e-mail it to me...
Hit my handle for address, if you want to go the e-mail route.

Thanks there;
but i'm going back to the button route by placing a replay page button on it, but macromedia there needs to come up with an easy pause movie concept.
thanks again

Hey, i have another question for you!

when i publish this movie and then play it back on my computer (around a 1.6, 256ram, Nvidia card), it always stutters to life the first time. and to get smooth starting play, i need to close it and do it again.

Why does it have such a hard time starting out smooth?

Will readers have this same crappy first impression?

Is this a case of needing to use a preloader?

note - this site is for broadband only but as a safety factor should i put in a preloader anyway?
