I am getting a error message trying to backup a individual mailbox..Here are the details.any ideas?

Error 8602

8602 Failed to read from database. (DBNAME=object name, EC=error message/code)

Module:
Backup Agent

Explanation:
The Backup Agent error (EC=error message/code) occurs while Backup Agent reads data stream in a backup object(DBNAME=object name) from Database server to ARCserve.
Check the Backup Agent Log file for details.

Firstly, is this ARCserve 2000 or 6.61?

Secondly, Is it Advanced edition or workgroup edition?

Thirdly, are you backing up remotely or locally?

Fourthly, has it ever worked previously?

Fifthly, What are the builds or ARCserve and the SQL agent?

thanks,

guru

Hi there,

Its ArcServe 2000 7.0, Build 1086 on Windows 2000 Server backing up the Exchange Server Locally. The backup worked for about a week where it was actually backing up all the individual mail boxes, but still got error messages of E8602, It's now only backing up portions of the mailbox, For instance, I will select "ONE" individual mail box and attempt to back it up. The backup will only perform parts of her folder like calender, sent items and thats about it.
I am running the pre post command to stop "VAPI" as well.

Any ideas?

I bet you have an antivirus program running on the backup server. You need to set the backup job to stop the av at the beginning and restart it at the end. It has to do with Microsoft's VAPI and MAPI interfaces interfering with each other. Make a couple of batch files using NET START service and NET STOP service, and add them to the Pre/Post options.

Hi there,

I actually downloaded a pre post batfile from Symantec's web site to stop and restart the vapi/mapi interfaces, This task seems to be working. I am kinda skeptical about stopping the complete antivirus software during a backup.

Thanks

Also just tried disabling the NAV and attempted to back up that individual email box and still the same problem???

Thanks
Jeff
