Hello,

I'm new to reporting services...I need to do a simple report where I have colA, colB, colC. I want to calc a column where colA + colB - colC = myCalculatedColumn.

my question, can I do this with a table format, or should I use a matrix format? And is Visual Studio the best tool to use for building reports?

I also need sub totals and grand totals for the report.

Thanks for any advice.

Thank you...I was able to get to the part where I create my calculated field with an expression in the data tab, but I can't get the new calculated field added to the report for runtime.

HOw can I get the new column onto my report?

Thank you, but I did figure it out. Now I'm trying to figure out how to add sub totals to it.

right click on the field, there should be an option to add subtotal

Rgds, Geoff

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

jre - do a google search on "free sql 2005 reporting services tutorial video" (or you could also try training instead of tutorial) - that is how I got my feet wet since I tend to learn more from seeing and doing than from reading SOME new things. MANY things were much easier - then I took the real training.

there are some on youtube - is an example... there are many out there...
