I am interested in learning COBOL. I have a copy of MicroFocus and am learning on my own. I am wondering how one could get real world experience in COBOL programming/administration. My background is in networking and help desk support.

Get a book and start doing problems. That's really all I can tell you. As far as "really real world" I doubt too many companies are going to let you near their mainframes for "educational purposes".

Teach Yourself COBOL in 21 Days" is very good. Its examples are in MicroFocus COBOL. I have a copy, but can't locate it. I don't remember the author or publisher. Perhaps someone out there can supply this info.

Teach Yourself COBOL in 21 Days:
Sams, Paperback, 3 edition, Published November 1999, 1211 pages, ISBN 0672317885

Hope This Helps, PH.
