I'm just getting started importing pictures and creating a grid for my site. I'm pretty new to this and am teaching myself as I go. What pixel size should I start with that is most common and will work the best?

8 bit 72px/in gif would do just fine....this is more of a discussion for (maybe PS) the graphics/editing program you use not so much for DW....hence the link by traingamer.
