I have a 3580 LTO 2 drive attached to a p630 running aix 5.2. I need to backup 300GB and it took more than 8hours!
I didn't install Atape.driver (my tape drive is seen as OTHER SCSI drive), is it causing my problem?
I use aix backup command (backup by name).
Thanks for any tip that could help.

Are you using 'smit' ?

Try using "smit backup" and set your options as desired, only up the 'buffer size'. The tape drive likely as a few MB buffer in it, so set the buffer size to roughly the same size as the tape drive buffer size.

I currently backup over 300GB in about 5 hours on LTO-1.

Are you plugged into at least an Ultra-2 adapter ? A 6205 or equivalent ?
